Andrea

On July 2nd my oldest daughter was riding her motorcycle to work and was struck by an SUV.
She sustained multiple injuries to her right leg.  She had a compound fracture of her femur and had to have a rod placed in her femur and 2 screws put in her ankle fracture.  She also had a shattered tibial plateau fracture with a large wound to the knee.  After 1 surgery at Portneuf Medical Center she was transferred to the University of Utah Hospital.  She spent 13 days in the hospital total.  She underwent a total of 4 surgeries.  We were very blessed by many miracles that Andrea is still with us.  She celebrated her birthday in the hospital.  We are very grateful that she is able to have many more birthdays.  We know that she was being watched over that day.  Her injuries were limited to her leg.  She was wearing her helmet and did not have any other injuries to her head, spinal cord, neck, or internal injuries.  After seeing the pictures of the accident we know that she was being watched over that day.

She is staying with us while she is on the mend.  She is to put no weight on the leg for 3 months, and has lots of physical therapy ahead of her.  She has a great attitude and a fighting spirit.  The days however get long, as she is a very active girl.  Along with loving to ride her motorcycle she loved running, (which she hopes she can do again) and was training to run another marathon the last of July.  Maybe next year.  We would like to thank all those who helped her in any way that day.  We know that there were many witnesses of the accident that didn't think she could have survived, but she did.  Thank you to all of you who said prayers that day and since then on her behalf, we have felt the power that comes from your prayers and thoughts.  A big thank you goes out to the EMS crew, the doctors, therapists, and nurses and all those who have helped in any way on her road to recovery.  We know it will be a long road.

  1. I am also so very thankful for all the many things that others have done for me. It has been very hard watching the summer pass by while I sit and want to be outside running, riding my motorcycle, and just enjoying all the events of summer. But thanks to many peoples texts, emails, and visits has been a great help and also the many gifts to keep me entertained!! Thank You everyone!! Andrea

  4. Survived Salt Lake today. It was a long day and we are glad to be home. The x-rays look good. The wound over the knee however is another story. Still have a ways to go with that. They are going to put a wound vac on it to help with the healing. The drive did not wear her out as much as before, but getting car sick is no fun. She is sporting a new brace that feels so much lighter. Thanks everyone for your prayers, thoughts and support.

  5. The wound vac has arrived. The nurse is coming tomorrow to get it started. Let the speedy healing begin. Doing a few bending and leg strengthening exercises.

Craft fairs will be here soon and I hope lots of folks come out to support you by buying the cool T-Shirts and motorcycle awareness bracelets! Keep up the healing!
